It means a lot of traffic through Facebook which is good for them. But is it good for the end-user; which is YOU?
I would like to explain why it is not good for you:
I am pretty sure, that Facebook selects what kind of posts that are more important. A very simpel textpost from a friend is more likely to be higher ranked (and be seen by you) than a post which contains a link. A post that contains a link is more likely to be higher ranked than a post which contains a YouTube video (or vice versa). All I am saying is that whether we like it or not, Facebook is deciding what is more important for us to see.
Let's say, you have "liked" 100 different Facebook Pages ranking from Products, to Music/Artists or whatever. The companies have found Facebook to be a helpful platform to advertise on for their products. Besides that, you have 786 friends. If you combine the volume of information you get from your 786 friends plus all the Facebook Pages you "like", it turns out to be massive. But in itself, it's fine. But when you look at all that information for the 620th day of your "Facebook-life", you begin to select and deselect in the information given and what is important to you.
What is really important here is, that of all that information given, it might be only about 20 % you actually find interesting. The rest is just garbage.
And this is why Facebook is overused - Because you begin to think: "What is really important?".
A year ago, a post from a friend containing a link, might have been really interesting. But today it just blends in with the rest of the garbage on Facebook.
You have to decide what you think is important to you, who you think is important to you, and how you would like to get influenced, because Facebook is doing all that for you at the moment.
Just to put it in to perspective: I have 781 friends on Facebook. I make a post containing a link with some music I have recorded, and I get 2 "likes", and under 50 people actually listens to the music. There are only to reasonable explanations: 1. People have listened to my music before and find it really really boring or 2. They are simply fed up with this kind of information and/or recommendations everyday.
You really don't share stuff on Facebook anymore because it's very special. You simply share EVERYTHING.
Twitter seems small compared to Facebook.
